William Ross Obituary

William Henry Ross, Sr., was born on December 14, 1942, to the union of Henry and Mary Jones-Ross, in St. Louis, Missouri. William received his education in the public schools of St. Louis. William’s mother was very instrumental in his religious training, which lead him to salvation. William accepted Christ as his personal savior at the age of twelve during a Holy Ghost filled revival run by Elder Green of East St. Louis, Illinois. He became a member of Church of God in Christ Congregation under the leadership of Elder E. Harriel. Later, he and his parents and family moved their membership to Williams Temple Church of God in Christ under Elder Columbus Williams. He served in many capacities in the church: choir member under late Mother Gurley, junior usher under late Sister Kent, and member of the singing group Danielaires & Williamaires. He began playing around with the piano at age fourteen, and the Lord gifted him with playing organ and piano. Late Sister Barbara Jean encouraged him by letting him play the piano with her on the organ. He was a loyal member of Williams Temple until the Lord lead him to move to Chicago. He also sang with the State Choir under the leadership of the late O’Neil twins. In the year of 1962, William relocated to Chicago, where he joined the Holy Temple COGIC under the late Bishop E. Lenox. While there, the church’s name was changed to the Greater Holy Temple COGIC. William served in many capacities. The late Sister Verna Burton took him under her wing and trained him to work faithfully in various areas of the church. He became one of the musicians of the Young AdultChoir. He was appointed church organist by Bishop Lenox, where he played for over thirty years. After the passing of our Bishop, Elder James Lenox was appointed Pastor. William continued working in other areas of the church as Bulletin Chrm, Bus Ministry Chrm, and Assistant Minister of Music for the Bishop E. Lenox Memorial Choir. William accepted his call to the ministry in the year of 1986. He was licensed by the late Elder James E. Lenox in the year of 1987. Elder James E. Lenox was a great inspiration to Elder Ross; he greatly encouraged him in the ministry. In the year 1990, Minster Ross was ordained as Elder Ross by the late Bishop John I. Cobbs, Presiding Bishop of Southern Illinois Diocese. William served as the District Minister of Music for Late Shore District under Elder Owens. He also served as Assistant State Minister of Music under the leadership of Elder Wayne Doss. He was a member of the Chicago Pentecostal Choir under Elder James E. Lenox. In the year of 2006, the Lord moved Elder Ross to another ministry, the True Word Outreach Ministries under the leadership of Apostle Derek C. Banks. In the ministry, Elder Ross grew more in the Word of God and was a help to the ministry. He served as organist, bus driver, chairman of official day for convocation, and member of pew committee, and started the assessment program. Elder Ross was appointed the Senior Elder by Apostle Banks. He worked faithfully at this industry until God called him home. Elder Ross loved his pastor and Queen Mother Banks and the church family. On May 3, 1980, William was united in Holy Matrimony to Pricilla Robinson. To this union three children were born, Felicia, Victoria, and William, Jr. William was employed by Stineway Drugstore, Siegel, Newark, and Canon during his years in Chicago. God called Elder Ross home on May 23, 2020. He leaves to mourn: his loving wife, Priscilla Jean; two daughters, Felicia and Victoria; one son, William, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Ashanti, Shanice, Kendal, Travon, Treshun, Tiquan, Trinity, and kamori; four brothers, Walter (Gloria) John, Haldore, St. Louis, and Jarone (Miram) California; one sister, Lorene; special cousin, Betty; nephews; nieces; cousins; a family of inlaws; and True Word Outreach Ministries and Greater Holy Temple Love Family
