Rosie Mae Kirkwood was born on February 15, 1922, in Louise, MS, to the union of John Hughes and Julie Fountain. Ms. Rose, as she was affectionately known, loved to cook every day, and everybody knew where they could get a good meal, be - cause Ms. Rose fed everyone. In addition to cooking, she provid - ed shelter for close friends. Sundays were called “Neighborhood Day”, because Ms. Rose would prepare a big Sunday dinner for family, friends, and neighbors who couldn’t wait to get their plate. The police called Ms. Rose the Mayor of the block where she re - sided on the Westside, South Lawndale area, for 48 years. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-greatgrandmother, and friend. Ms. Rose loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Sheppard Temple Church, under the leadership of Reverend Roosevelt Wi - ley. Ms. Rose passed away April 24, 2020, peacefully at home. Ms. Rose was preceded in death by husband: Sam May, sister: Marie Weathers, beloved son: Dwight Johnson, granddaughter: Dawn, grandsons: Maurice, Quinton, Jesse, and Marvin Jr., great-grand - sons: Samuel III and Quinton Steven, and great-great-grandson: Dashawn. Ms. Rose leaves to mourn: seven children… Sons: Willie Weath - ers (Lolita), Samuel Fountain (Marisol), and Rovel Fountain; Daughters: Katie Kirkwood (Matthew Muhammad), Ernestine Reed (Eddie), Rose Sturdivant (Clarence Sr.), and Charnell But - ler (Marvin); Special Son: Bernard Allen; Adopted Grandsonin-Love: Andre Rodriquez; 35 Grandchildren, 56 Great-Grandchildren, and 19 Great-Great-Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; and longtime friend: Eunice McGhee.
