Evangelist Barbara Spence Love Obituary

“We are confident, I say and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord”-II Corinthians 5:8

Evangelist Barbara Ann Spence Love was born October 30, 1953, to the late Richard Gills, Jr., and Lena Mae Divine Gills, in Utica, MS. She obtained her education at McNair School in Belzoni, MS, where she was an active member in the school band. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Church of God in Christ, in Belzoni, MS. She was a faithful and dedicated member at St. Paul C.O.G.I.C, until her family relocated to Chicago, IL. While in Chicago, she met and married Robert Michael Spence, who preceded her in death, and to this union, came seven children. Her educational background led her to become a very successful and blessed woman. She worked for Pass Load, until the company relocated to another state. She drove the school bus for district 89, for several years. Barbara rededicated her life to Christ in 1983. In 1987, God elevated her to spread the Gospel ministry by appointing her to be an evangelist. She later joined Proviso Baptist Church, under the leadership of Dr. Bishop Claude Porter, where she was an active member in the church. She even sang in the choir (LOL). In 1992, she married Edgar Love, who preceded her in death. She later moved to Lexington, MS, where she joined St. Paul C.O.G.I.C, under the leadership of Elder William Dean, and worked for the Holmes County school district, until she retired. She was also a faithful servant at the Powerhouse Deliverance Temple, under the late founder, Bishop Terry Robinson, and under the current pastor, Apostle Kathy Ellis Anderson. She later moved back to Chicago, where she became the founder and CEO of the House of Restoration Ministries. She was a watch member at the House of Prayer Church, under the current pastor, Dr. Elder Marshall. Wherever God sent her, she was a willing vessel. Saying her greatest love, other than Jesus, was her family, is an understatement. God called her home on April 26, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memories: seven children, Andrea Gills, Richard Cox, Doshune Gills (Felicia), Ella Carter (Jerome), Booker T. Spence (Elektra), Ollion (Olivia) Spence, and Robert M. Spence, who preceded her in death; thirty-seven grandchildren and twenty-six great-grandchildren; six brothers, Edgar Gills, Reverend Richard Gills III (Cynthia), Larry Gills, Arthur Gills, Bernard Gills, and August Gills, who preceded her in death; two sisters, Marion Logan (Theodore) and Caroline Lyke; sister-in-law, Barbara Ellis of Atlanta GA; three lifelong sisters, Apostle Sandra Thomas, Apostle Kathy Ellis Anderson, and Brenda Jenkins; two aunts, Susie Young and Margaree Blackmon of Jackson MS; one uncle, Robert Lee Gills; mother-inlaw, Adine Spence; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
