Beverly Patterson Obituary

On May 5, 1944, Beverly Joyce Dagen was born in Chicago, IL, to William Lee Dagen and Evelyn Blanche Dagen. Beverly was the first girl and the fourth of 16 children. Beverly attended Marshall High School. She didn’t complete high school, as by then she had the responsibility of two children. Beverly sought employment to ensure that she could provide a stable and loving home for her children. Her employment included National Food Store, Sears Roebuck, and a 30-year career with AT&T, until retirement. Beverly confessed her faith in Christ and was baptized at an early age. Beverly was currently an active member of Jordon Temple Baptist Church. Once retired, Beverly didn’t slowdown. She really got busy living life. Beverly rededicated her life to Christ and faithfully attended weekly Flight School (Bible Class) and Sunday and special church services. She went back to school and earned her high school diploma (not GED), graduating with special honors. Beverly became a perpetual student of life. She earned her real estate license and started a second career as an agent. She learned to swim. She became an avid line dancer. She always took classes to learn to manage her electronics. No one was safe when she had a new device. She was going to find someone to show her how to work it. Beverly developed a long-time affiliation with the Chicago Park District, attending hundreds of classes and special events and maintaining many special friendships through Columbus and LaFollette Parks. Beverly loved traveling and having fun with family and friends. Beverly’s philosophy was “if I ever get the chance,” and more often than not, she wouldn’t let that opportunity get past her. Beverly completed her earthly life on May 20, 2020, at the age of 76. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Dagen II and Evelyn Dagen; four brothers, twins, Donald and Ronald, William III, and Anthony; and two sisters, Evelyn and Fern. Beverly leaves to mourn her loving family: daughter, Karyn; son, Keith; two granddaughters, Takeya and Erin; grandson, Evan; great-grandson, Kaleb; brothers and sisters, Michele, Cherita, Gayle (James), Vanessa (Wayne), Kevin, Noreen (Luther), Loren (Yvette), Janyce (Anthony), and Orland; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
